Forward Deployed Engineer
Shortlist · Integrations and AI · 3–8 years · Client teams abroad
We're building a shortlist of Forward Deployed Engineers for upcoming client projects. Apply once. When a project fits your skills, we invite you to talk, and if it's a match you join Nilerobot and work directly with the client's team, managed and mentored by us.
A shortlist, not a single opening: we contact you when something fits, which can take a while. We keep your application for 12 months.
What you'll do
- Work directly with a client's team abroad, in English: learn how they work and turn their problem into a plan you can build.
- Connect software and AI features to the client's systems and data: their APIs, databases, sign-in and cloud.
- Take it from a first working version to production, with tests and review on every change, and stay until people use it.
- Explain your choices to engineers and managers, hand over what you built, and bring what you learn back to our team.
What we look for
- 3 to 8 years building production software, with some of it working directly with customers, clients or other teams.
- Python or TypeScript, with REST APIs, SQL databases such as PostgreSQL, and one cloud: AWS, Google Cloud or Azure.
- Integration work you can point to: third-party APIs, webhooks, data imports and migrations, sign-in and permissions.
- Features built on LLMs, with the answers checked before they reach users: prompts, tool calls, retrieval, evaluations.
- You own the outcome: you turn a vague request into a first version, ship it and improve it with the people who use it.
- You treat the client's data with care: the least access you need, secrets kept safe, personal data out of logs and prompts.
- You use AI coding tools well, review what they write, and can explain every line you ship.
- Clear English, written and spoken, and at ease explaining technical choices to people who aren't engineers.
Nice to have
- Time in a client-facing technical role: consulting, solutions engineering or professional services.
- Data work: pipelines, migrations between systems, and checking that the numbers match.
- AI agents in production: tool calls, MCP servers, evaluations, and a person approving risky actions.
- Enterprise systems: single sign-on, ERPs or CRMs, and privacy rules such as GDPR.
- Docker, CI/CD and monitoring, so you can run what you deploy.
- A degree in computer science or a related field.

About Nilerobot
We're a software studio in Egypt. We build our own products and our clients' with the same team, and we work the way we write about: harness engineering, with tests and review on every change. What is harness engineering?
Our engineers also teach. Nilerobot Academy trains the next Product Engineers in the same workflow you would use here. About the academy The academy is a separate training programme; it isn't part of hiring.
