Software Engineering Instructor
Open role · Part-time, evenings · Hybrid (Cairo) · 4–10 years
Nilerobot Academy trains Product Engineers who build with AI agents: final-year students and fresh graduates on one track, working developers on the other. We're looking for an engineer who loves teaching to give sessions and mentor students alongside Mohamed Salah, our CEO and the academy's lead instructor.
We're hiring for this role now. We keep your application for 12 months.
What you'll do
- Teach live evening sessions, hybrid: in person in Cairo and online. A new idea, live coding, then pair work.
- Review students' code every week and write feedback they can act on.
- Mentor students one to one and in small teams, from the first week to their capstone and graduation.
- Improve the material with Mohamed: lessons, exercises and examples, based on what you see in class.
What we look for
- 4 to 10 years building production software as a full-stack engineer.
- Experience teaching or mentoring: a course, workshops or talks, or junior engineers you helped grow.
- TypeScript, React and Next.js, Node.js and PostgreSQL, with Git and GitHub, well enough to debug a student's code live.
- Strong fundamentals you can explain simply: data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design, testing and clean code.
- You build with AI coding agents every day, review what they write, and can teach students to catch them when they're wrong.
- Patient and clear: you explain one idea in more than one way, and give honest feedback kindly.
- You teach well in Arabic and English: classes are mainly in Arabic, and students practise working in English.
- Free some evenings each week, in person in Cairo and online. We agree the days and times with each cohort.
Nice to have
- Experience on a team abroad, so you can show students how those teams work day to day.
- Harness engineering: instruction files, hooks, tests and CI that keep coding agents on track.
- Cloud and deployment: Docker, CI/CD, AWS or Google Cloud, logs and error tracking.
- System design, security basics, or running software in production: incidents, rollbacks and monitoring.
- Talks, a course, a blog or open-source work that shows how you explain things.
- A degree in computer science or a related field.
How it works
- Apply. About 10 minutes: your CV, a link to your work if you have one, and one short written answer.
- We review. We read every application. If you make the shortlist, we email you.
- A 45-minute quiz. We email you a link: questions about the work, about how you work with a team and with clients, and two short written answers.
- Interview. A call with our team where you walk us through your own work.
- Offer. If it's a match: an offer to join Nilerobot.
About Nilerobot
We're a software studio in Egypt. We build our own products and our clients' with the same team, and we work the way we write about: harness engineering, with tests and review on every change. What is harness engineering?
Our engineers also teach. Nilerobot Academy trains the next Product Engineers in the same workflow you would use here. About the academy The academy is a separate training programme; it isn't part of hiring.
Apply
- Your CV as a PDF or Word file, 5 MB or less.
- Your GitHub profile, or a link to something you built.
- About 10 minutes.
- If you like, a short video intro: unlisted YouTube, Loom or Google Drive. It is optional.
Write your answers yourself. We read for your own words, and the call shows us the person behind them.
